man在這裡指一類人。在英國歷史上雖然有很多女王，但是從很多單詞都可以看出，詞彙是有重男輕女的，比如history，一看his story他的故事，那為嘛不是her story呢？好啦扯遠了。單說個man，man為何就可以指人類呢？為何就能概指一類人呢？而women就僅僅是女人、婦女。

1. man-about-town 遊手好閒到處尋歡作樂的人；

Roddy is a known man-about-town, you can't go to a party or night club without seeing him there.

羅迪是個活躍於交際場中的男子-你在聚會或夜總會中準能看見他。

2. man-eater

男人殺手，指很容易迷倒男人、具有很多戀情的女人（非正式）；

吉爾曾是一個極有魅力的女人。

3. Renaissance man 文藝復興式人物; 博學多才的人 (指在藝術和科學方面博學的人)

薩姆·霍桑這個人，用當時的一句時髦話說，是個有著文藝復興時期風格的人(博學多才的人)。

4. iron man

身體強健可以長時間工作的人；（這個老闆讓你加班，你就會順口說一句，48小時沒休息了呢，我又不是鐵人。）

7、madwoman 瘋女人
