常見的題型 Oral Examination 是要求同學說出一些東西的利弊。
What are the advantages of using energy saving light bulbs?
雖然讀英文的同學都應該知道要找出兩個意思原全一樣的比找出一個字的相反詞要困難得多，但是，我們還是能夠用幾個簡單的字去表達接近的意思的，這亦是平日英文老師常常說的 ‘paraphrase’。

n. 名詞 [C] 變化形 paraphrases;
1. 釋義, 意譯, 改述
2. 演釋曲

vt. 及物動詞 變化形 paraphrases;
1. 將...釋義(或意譯), 改述

He paraphrased the poem in modern English. 他用現代英語譯述這首詩。

vi. 不及物動詞 變化形 paraphrases;
1. 釋義, 意譯
你可以這樣說：

1. Well, we can in fact benefit (v.) a lot from using energy light bulbs.
2. Using energy light bulbs indeed has a lot of benefits (n.).
再簡單一點，你可以說：
3. The good things of using energy saving light bulbs include...
能夠用上不同的詞彙去表達相同的意思，考官對你的印象分自然會大加了。

「缺點」的同義字

今天不用上課，天氣又難得的好，見到久違了的藍天白雲，又是學習的好時機。
上面說過「優點」，這次當然要談論「缺點」了。在英文小組討論 'Group discussion' 及個人回應 'Individual response' 部份，問題常要求同學說出一件事的「缺點」'disadvantages'。
例如：
What are the disadvantages of 'homeschool'?
「在家學習」（相對在學校學習）有什麼缺點？
我們又可以用什麼生字 paraphrase 'disadvantage' 這個字呢？
其實要 paraphrase 'disadvantage(s)'，我們可以用：

1. weakness(es)
e.g. One of the weaknesses of the programme is that it lacks a thorough planning.
2. drawback(s)
e.g. The only drawback of your proposal is that it is environmentally-unfriendly.
3. problem(s)
e.g. The problems of the school canteen include poor hygiene, inadequate number of seats and bad service.
4. weak point(s)
e.g. The weak point of your presentation is that your voice was too soft.
5. downside
e.g. The downside of this project concerns the validity of the figure.
6. liability
e.g. Lack of education could be a liability in getting a job.
要在考試時懂得運用適當的詞彙，平日的練習是十分重要的，平時在你的作文、討論、演說、Newspaper Cutting Exercise　等練習中，要多多運用呀！
